The SchemaLogic Classification Module

Enhancing Document Classification
with Metadata Management

Every large organization faces the problem of finding content on demand that has been created over long periods of time and stored in different systems by different groups with different standards. Even within single systems, such as Microsoft SharePoint 2007, weak or no control of metadata structures creates widely inconsistent descriptions of content, impairing content findability and governance. And when other systems such as Documentum are deployed together with SharePoint, metadata management becomes even more difficult and results in the inability to find business critical content, and time wasted by employees looking for information.

The Challenge of Consistent Categorization

A key requirement of implementing a consistent metadata structure and reaping its benefit is to consistently apply metadata (i.e. tagging) to all content. However, implementing policies to ensure that content contributors tag content consistently has been difficult, if not impossible, for most organizations. Even with a consistent metadata structure in place, if tags are applied incorrectly, inconsistently, or not at all, the content is much less findable when searched for.

Extending Categorization Enterprise – wide

SchemaLogic solves this problem by providing a complete solution that combines complete metadata management capabilities with integrated classification. By integrating the enterprise metadata with the classification system, the classification system is provided with the latest metadata model and can therefore provide the best classification accuracy. This ensures that content can be consistently described, and increases its findability.

SchemaServer provides a dynamic registry to map or cross-reference metadata from these multiple systems. New metadata is shared and standards are enforced in a way that is non-intrusive to applications. Search tool dictionaries or indexes can also be mapped into SES to associate this metadata within the model. Finally, SES connects native or industry taxonomies into the model to maintain regulatory obligations.

With the SchemaLogic Classification Module the content classification process is dramatically improved and continually optimized to ensure that all content is associated with up-to-date, accurate, consistent metadata. This further improves the findability and governance of content.

SchemaLogic Enterprise Suite delivers high-integrity findability for our global customers by ensuring that all content is readily found; is consumed in a relevant context; and is protected according to policy.
